| Noise
induced hearing loss is an unpleasant, aggravating and eventually
debilitating problems. Although it is one of the most commonly recognised
occupational dieases, costing millions of Ringgits in compensations,
insurance premium increases and loss of career opportunities, the
causes are nowdays also to be found away from the working environment
where more and more people expose their hearing to loud and continuous
noises during their leisure activities.
Hearing
loss caused by damage s to the tiny sensory hair cells in the inner
ear is irreversible, sadly it is most underrated because unlike
most other “INDUSTRIAL ACCIDENT” there are no visible
effect or pain, just a gradual & progressive loss of hearing
and loss of communication within the work environment and amongst
family and friends.
Can
be either disposable or reusable types. Disposable ear plugs are
made to be economical enough that to be thrown away after a short
period of usage where reusable ear plugs should be regularly cleansed
after each usages.
EARMUFFS:-
Provide a perfect seal around the complete ear. The noise reduction
rate for ear muffs is generally lower than that of a ear plug,
therefore not providing as much protection.
HEARING BAND:-
Used by employees who are not consistently staying in one high
noise level environment. A band is easily removed from the ear
canal and can hang around the neck.
NOISE REDUCTION RATES :- The
noise reduction Rate (known as NRR) is assigned to every hearing
protector. The NRR was develop by the EPA as a method of gauging
the adequacy of a hearing protector’s attentuation, or
noise reducing capacity. The EPA Regulation requires that the
NRR to be printed on all the packaging for each hearing protector.
